Kennebec Savings has been involved in the Trek Across Maine in one way or another since 1988 when the bank’s president, Mark Johnston, took up bicycling.  The bank sponsors an employee cycling team named the “Loan Rangers” that has grown to 54 members from nine just a couple of years ago.  The bank also registers thousands of cyclers and counts pledge money each year for an event that is one of the largest and most successful for ALA. 

The Independent Community Bankers of America (ICBA) named Kennebec Savings Bank, one of the honorees in the 2006 National Community Bank Service Awards for the bank’s outstanding leadership in the Trek Across Maine bicycle fundraising event for the American Lung Association (ALA).

ICBA founded the National Community Bank Service Awards program five years ago as part of April’s Community Banking Month to recognize the outstanding volunteer efforts of community banks. The ICBA National Community Bank Service Awards bring national recognition to the significant contributions community banks make in their local areas.

The awards are given to ICBA members that show longstanding commitments to community outreach development.
